Google Local Pack appears at the top of the search engine results page (also known as SERPs). This pack of 3 businesses appears when a user makes a search query that implies they are searching for something local such as a restaurant, grocery store, or the nearest spa.
How it works…
Google’s search algorithm helps to determine the 3 most relevant results in your area by using the search terms you have provided. The top 3 results are also featured on a map showing you where the businesses are located, business hours, and customer reviews.
If you are searching via your smartphone, you can click the provided phone number to call the business, or you can click the address to get directions from your preferred navigation app.
How is a local search identified?
Google can identify a local search in a wide variety of ways. Google determines a local search by considering the following factors:
- A user enters the name of the geographic area such as the town or city along with the desired search term
- A user includes search terms such as ‘near me’
- If a user searches a term that is typically associated with a business such as ‘spa’ without any other terms, Google will assume the user is looking for a local business
How do I get my business to appear in the Google Local Pack?
You will need to have a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) set up for your business. Once your listing has been claimed, then you will need to optimize your listing with relevant information to your business.
Google primarily considers proximity, prominence, and relevance when looking for businesses to show the user. By maintaining and frequently updating your Google Business Profile, Google will reward you by prioritizing your business in search results. You should plan to update your
